Understanding Tradeoffs: Urban Planning
Thursday, February 27, 2024
9:00 am – 4:30 pm
Join fellow Bay Area councilmembers for a hands-on UrbanPlan Workshop, presented by PBF in collaboration with the Urban Land Institute, San Francisco. Exclusive to elected officials, this workshop provides an interactive opportunity to engage with the key factors that influence the design and development of cities and towns, as well as the critical leadership roles public officials play in the real estate development process.
Participants will step into role-playing exercises that reveal the complexities of urban planning, balancing competing demands such as community benefits, financial viability, and land use solutions. The workshop helps decision-makers navigate the challenging trade-offs between public and private sector interests and consider realistic growth solutions to address the Bay Area’s housing and development challenges. This engaging and informative session is tailored for public officials looking to deepen their understanding of urban planning and the dynamic interplay between policy decisions and real-world development outcomes.
